An Insight Into The IChooseLife Journey.
Take a walk with me down the rose-colored path the IChooseLife Foundation has trod on for the past year.
Seeing the world through youth-centered microscopes, the IChooseLife Foundation has one major goal in mind – providing a solution to drug and hard substance abuse among young people, by providing healthy alternatives through engaging activities and events, while promoting mental health.
ICLF has stayed true to its goal and hasn’t fallen short of steering its ship consistently towards it. This is certainly evident in the activities that have marked the past year.
On February 14 this year, the Foundation held an event themed “Love Life, Love Yourself” to mark the ‘day of love’ at high schools in Abuja. These events were aimed at teaching the young high schoolers to see beyond the well-known notion of Val’s day being a day that must be spent between ‘lovers' - as they knew it – and giving oneself to another. The Team from IChooseLife Foundation had remarkable sessions of the Val's day event at G.S.S Gwarimpa and BRITAC, Lugbe. Wouldn’t you applaud the genius behind the idea of this Val's day school tour? Especially as it’s becoming common among young people to lose themselves in the Valentine fever, ICLF's “Love Life, Love Yourself” school tour will always be remembered as one of their cornerstone events in promoting mental health among young people. The IChooseLife Foundation seems never to lose momentum as they keep coming up with such ingenious programs geared at feeding their goal – changing the narrative of mental health among young people. Some other notable events organised by the Foundation include rehabilitation exercises around the nation for young victims of drug abuse; marking international days with young people like the International Youth Day and International Day for the Prevention of Suicide. The ICLF's involvement in events as listed above only serve to show their committed concern and zest for making change and improving the quality of living in young people.
It keeps getting better. With more juicy and impactful events that pack more than a punch in the pipeline, the ICLF is well on their way, with full throttle, to bringing the year to an extraordinary close.
Coming up next month is the #MyNigerianDream 2.0 themed “Beauty, Brains and Brawn” to be centered on the fashion and sports industries. As part of the activities marking this year’s #MyNigerianDream, a fashion contest will be organised to give young people a platform to showcase their work in fashion design. Contestants will enjoy benefits such as building a portfolio, working with top fashion designers in Nigeria, and a chance to win a whooping sum of N1,000,000.
That’s not nearly all of it. At the event next month, the ICLF will commemorate with the Young Stars who returned successfully from the just concluded World Athletics U20 Championships.
Oh, there’s more! And this is going to blow your mind! The IChooseLife Foundation will be organizing the very first ever National Skating Competition to be held in Nigeria! This milestone National event will spotlight the skating sphere of sporting activities in Nigeria, which unfortunately goes quite unnoticed. This is ICLF at it again, changing narratives! This event will help young people find purpose in sporting activities they love instead of relying on the high of drugs.
What a way to round off the year! The IChooseLife Foundation is on an all-time high and there’s no losing momentum. As long as the sun still shines, IChooseLife Foundation will keep giving out value and changing lives!
