The Drug Abuse Challenge
Challenges of Drug Abuse To Nigeria as a Nation
In the report released by Unite Nations Office on Drugs and Crime(UNODC),it stated that in Nigeria, 1 out of 7 people aged between 15 - 64 years have used drugs in the year under review, thus underscoring the need to target young persons of school age if we are to curb the menace and discourage the appetite for drug abuse at an early age.
Other statistics contained in the UNODC report shows that the prevalence of any drug use in Nigeria is estimated at 14.4% or about 14.3 million people aged between 15 - 64 years and about two-third of the people who used drugs reported having serious problems, as a result of their drug use, such as missing school or work or neglecting their parents.
The impact of drug abuse among the youth has been a stigma of moral decadence, violence, thuggery, assult, rape, cybercrime and murder.

Why the Life Approach?
It goes without saying that prevention is better than cure. Indeed, addiction by its very nature is difficult to overcome. The cost to the government, to the family and the community is exponential. To avoid this, youths can be diverted from doing drugs and routed to a Life-loving path.
Drawing from the global resources available, we would deploy various prevention techniques, with a focus on parenting, families and life-skills education at different levels of development(i.e infancy, early and middle childhood, adolescence and adulthood). This would be more effective than other interventions.
